And, as those of you who read my blog on a regular basis also know, today was the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Here is my girl, in all her green glory:
The Boy also went back to school today, full of moxy and assistive technology. He wore his “toilet please” button and his “Hi!” wrist talker and he walked all the way from the handicapped parking space, up the ramp and to his classroom. Compare that to last year! My goodness. I didn’t get a picture of him because he was in too much of a hurry. They were both in a hurry this morning, my kids. I guess I made summer so much fun they just couldn’t wait to get out of the house. This was the first year Josie did not want an escort to her classroom, so I missed out on the congregation of kids outside the door, all checking each other out, talking and alternately ignoring one another. (Girls ignoring boys, for example.) Since she left her lunch behind, I did get to spy on her briefly when I dropped it off. The kids seemed eager and ready to roll. There were also 30 of them in that classroom so what I observed could easily have just been ordinary chaos as well. We’ll see.
As for me, I am going to spend the day dotting some i’s and crossing some t’s.
PS. Some links for today: New Moonwatches at Stargardening. If you haven’t read M’s Moonwatches, I encourage you to take a peek. They are powerful and inspirational and just all around great insights to guide you on your path. Also, JGG has a lovely post on “what to say/what not to say to parents of children with differences” at Mamazine. It’s just a wonderful take and well worth the read. Finally, the Talking Heads. Rediscovered by yours truly after all this time. They’re still great, if you ask me.

I think back to the days of elementary school in my house when the time to go buy the new uniform/school supplies was greeted by a multitude of groans. Love Josie’s back-to-school outfit! She’s wearing two of my favorite colors.
