You are so right. We must tell those stories. My latest blog entry is harrowing, having to do with my autistic son wandering and trying to jump off a four story water slide in a panic. I truly feared putting that up. Will it make me look like a terrible mother? But that's our lives. Autistic kids wander. Every parent of such children has those stories. They must be told. My oldest is 22, and I think there were really a lot of people, even then, writing about motherhood. Now, the outlets have just exploded, which is a good thing. You can find so many supportive places to go where people understand what you're going through. And there are books, too. Robyn Stecher has written an inspiring book ("There's Something About Daniel") about life with her own <a href="http://www.robynstecher.com/" rel="nofollow"> exceptional child.</a> To me it echoes what you say about the joy and worth of each story, because the book is a series of stories about the joys -- amidst the challenges -- of life with Daniel. You see the absolute need to live life in the moment, and the love and faith in the unknown, and that she champions the idea he will be strong and capable and leave the world a better place.
